People First

Our aim is to take Fishers as a business from being good to being great. To do this we need to be able to offer something different to our staff and customers that sets us apart from our competitors, the chain supermarkets.

We know that we cannot compete on price alone as we do not have the size to match them, we know that we cannot match their distribution systems or their technology systems and we know that we cannot match their advertising budgets.

What we also know is that we can make our people better.

We do this by encouraging our people to be the best that they can be.

We know that if we invest in our people then our stores will be better places to shop, better places to work and we will have stronger relationships with our suppliers. We call this “People First”.

We encourage our store managers and department managers to achieve outstanding results with their people, not at the expense of their people.

We encourage them to trust the staff that they have and trust that they are there for the right reasons. We trust our staff to make the right decisions when they have to and will support them in this.

We encourage them to share the information that they have with their staff so that we have lots of people thinking about making our business better rather than a select few.

We encourage our staff to challenge our people in leadership positions so that all points of view are considered.

We encourage our staff to take responsibility for themselves and their departments and to act according to our company values in all areas.

We know that if we continue to implement these things, believe in our people and support them achieving our vision we will become a great company to work for, shop with and deal with.
