Heat Wave ...
What about this hot weather we are having
at the moment, don’t get me wrong, I love the heat, but in
the correct season!! It seams one week ago we were sleeping under
a pile of blankets and now with the aircon on, makes a man turn
to the drink!
And that’s just what I did; firstly
on Saturday night Kath and I attended the Fishers combined stores
Xmas shindig at the Mildura Golf club where the suds flowed freely.
A very warm night, but nothing a couple of brews couldn’t
fix, is there nothing beer can’t do! Big thanks to Fred and
Betty for a great night!!
On Sunday afternoon I went out to Wooden
Eye winery were Vigneron Steve Glasson rightfully took great pride
in letting us taste his 04 reds still maturing in French and American
Baroque’s. It’s quite amazing how the different oak
creates different tastes in the wine and Steve will blend these
with a batch of unoaked wine he has in stainless steel tanks to
create the final blend to be bottled.
The wine itself is sensational and will surely
knock the socks off the show judges once it’s released mid
05.
The current release Shiraz and Cab Sav both
took home a Bronze, one at the Inland wine show at Swan Hill and
the other at the Victorian Wines Show at Seymour. Wooden Eyes star
is certainly on the rise. Thanks Steve, and I can’t wait till
your cellar door opens, I can tell its going to be one classy piece
of work.
On the way home we stopped at the Brewery
for a couple of glasses of the local brew to wash away the sweat,
its tough work tasting wine you know!
If you’re a Sherry drinker or thinking
about taking it up I suggest you fly in, as we have the last of
the Mildara Sherry’s on our shelves. No more Chestnut Teal,
Rio Vista or George (who’d call a sherry George? Reason enough
to buy a bottle!) Production has sadly stopped on this iconic tipple
so buy up now as you never know when you will want to turn to a
good bottle of Sherry.
Our new beer shelving is in place and doesn’t
it look swell! Heaps more room for the beer and no pesky doors to
hinder your selections.
We have in Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale,
at 7.5% alc it’s a must try this festive season, and if you’ve
got the room the Cooper boys suggest putting aside a case for 12
months to improve the flavours even more. And at only $3.20, talk
about bang for your buck!
Our new liquor catalogue is out now and the
specials last until xmas so there’s no point waiting till
the week before to see what’s on special... HERES your chance
to get stocked up with all the drinks and goodies and miss out on
the madness the week before xmas.
Pre planning prevents a
pretty poor Christmas!
The Summer edition of BYO liquor and lifestyle
magazine is now in stock. Its quite a good read with wine reviews,
recipes, new products and travel all for the reasonable price of,
$ZIP.00, you read that right, nix, nothing. So don’t forget
to grab a complimentary copy next time you're in.
Drunk
DEAKIN SELECT SPARKLING
SHIRAZ
One of my favourite Xmas day
drinks is Sparkling Burgundy, it goes so well with the cold antipasto
lunches we always have on the 25th and to me seems to encapsulate
xmas to a tee.
This classy drop we tried on
our wine clubs Date with a Deakin tour and I had fond, if a tad hazy,
memories of my last taste.
And nothings changed, it’s
big, bold and very flavoursome with classic shiraz fruit driving the
palate. Tastes to me like the wine makers have used a quality base
wine to start with, unlike some cheaper products on the market. Its
a wine with excellent balance and drinkability, a wine that will satisfy
on any festive occasion not just Chrissy day. At only $15.95 it’ll
be gracing my Xmas spread for sure.
Tasting
This Friday we will have a White
Night with only whites on taste. Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc,
Grant Burge Thorn Eden Valley Riesling and Grant
Burge Pinot Chardonnay Brut.
See you at the tasting corner between 4.30 and 7.30 Friday
afternoon.
Congrats to MARTINE JOHN, she
was this weeks lucky winner of a bottle wine for tasting the Woodstock
wines and entering the comp.
I’m not going
to even try to write out the specials as there are way to many, you’ll
have to come in to see for yourself.
It’s a veritable wonderland of savings!
