Winetime on the Web...

I’ve just got to share my excitement with you. The other night I was on the internet using Google (wine research, thank you!) I typed in Winetime and up popped my newsletters!! I know it’s the norm these days, but I was pretty chuffed to see my work on the world wide web. Put this in your favourites www.fishers.com.au/winetime

Getting pretty cold at nights and maybe you should do as the Scots do.. No, not Haggis NEVER Haggis! but have a nightly dram of malt liquor. Scotch Whiskey to the uneducated, and boy do we have some lovely blended and single malts in store.

We have all of the popular blended Whiskeys from Johnnie Walker Red Label, Ballantines, Teachers through to Black Douglas and Vat 69 and everything in between.

But it’s the top shelf that I want to draw your attention to. If it’s a gift for someone special or you want to start getting a bit more serious about Scotch appreciation we have the goods.

In the Premium blended Scotch corner we have;

Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Chivas Regal Royal Salute, Dimple and Ballantines 12yo.

In the single malt corner we have;

Aberlour a’buadh, The Macallan Fine Oak 12yo, Knockando 12yo, The Glenlivet 12yo, Glenfiddich.

These represent some of the finest Scotch Whiskeys in the world, and we are proud to purvey such products.

You really don’t have to wait for a special occasion to start you appreciation of fine Scotch Whiskey, it’s the weather for it right now.

And for the liqueur lover, we’ve got these little gems.
There my idea of the perfect Fathers Day, period!

Food

Pea and Ham Soup

Last Saturday I made this simple but hearty meal. We had it for tea that night and for lunch the next day and then we hung a sign on the front fence warning,

Danger, no naked flames!

So very yummy it’s worth the toxic gas!

1 lge smoked hock

1 bag of split green peas

A bay leaf or two

Vegeta vegetable stock powder (my secret ingredient)

That’s all!

Now soak the peas in water for a couple of hours and the same with the hock (in separate containers). Drain both, rinsing the peas in a sieve. Throw them into a large heavy based pot and cover with water plus some. Pop in the bay leaves and a tablespoon of the vegeta, maybe some cracked pepper too.

Bring this to a high simmer stirring often to prevent it from catching on the bottom. This has to simmer for at least three hours or until the meat has fallen off the bone. At that point remove the bone and the fatty skin. Now adjust the seasoning and keep simmering if you want it thicker or of course you can add some water to thin it down if you choose.

Now for the hard part, limiting yourself to one bowl!

Tasting

Mildura Brewery

Heres your chance to taste the Trophy winning Sun Light and the other scrummy brews the boys down at Mildura Brewery are constructing with meticulous attention to detail.

And if we say pretty please they might even bring down their latest specialty beer, Night Porter. I was lucky enough to have tasted this beer out of the tank on our club tour of the brewery last month, and we all loved it then, flat and warmish! So now, fizzy and cold, it promises to be a sensation.

So come on down Friday arvo between 4.30 and 7pm and you might even win yourself a 6 pack of Mildura Brewery Beer.

Last weeks winner of a lovely bottle of Pennyfield wine was Ted Westley.
Congrats Ted just pop into the bottle shop and pick up your prize.

Featured Wine

Lindemans 2002 Reserve Cab Sav

Ross the Boss had this to say about the wine…

“Some wines are over priced and most are about on the money, but sometimes you will come across one that over delivers for the price you pay, this is one of them. The Lindemans Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has great robust flavours and a well balanced oak structure. A stand out."

Ross Griffiths.

Zilzie Special

We have secured a heap of old label Petit Verdot and Sangiovese from Zilzie (by old label I mean the excellent 2002 Vintage). The last time I tasted these wines they were retailing at $11.75 and I loved them; now at only $5.95 they’re an absolute bargain. You read that right dear members, only $5.95 for a terrific local wine. Of course we have limited stocks so get in quick and even grab a case at only $64.25, Hey, I think even your mothers would be proud of your fiscal prudence! And we’ve got them to taste all week, how good’s that!

We’ve got another great special in store that would go well with a nice seafood salad.
It’s the multi medalled DeBortolis Gulf Station Riesling.

We’ve taken the normal price of $17.95 and slashed it down to only $14.95.

Grolsch Special

This is one of the best beer specials we have ever had in our store!!

A 4 pack of 500ml cans of Grolsch at only $10.95 and $58.95 for a carton.

This is an unbelievable special and won’t last for long at this price.

Better get in and grab yourself some of this superb Dutch beer as once it’s gone its gone!
