Vol 1, No. 38 - July 2005!
Members Alert !!!This week I’ve got a ripper Laksa recipe, a couple of amazing deals on some imported Stouts and Ales, as well as the usual mixed bag of odds and bobs that characterize our newsletter. Firstly, we are looking for applicants to be part of our new “Fishers Wine Selection Panel”. We are after eight males and females of varying walks of life and age to help us select wines to appear on our shelves. We will meet monthly to do blind tastings and give a score out of one hundred. If selected, the wines will wear a shelf tag saying “Fishers Wine Club members recommend this wine ” or something like that. It promises to be a fun and educational night tasting new and interesting wines for the chosen members. But don’t worry if you’re not selected for this inaugural panel we will be changing the line up six or twelve monthly, we’ll see how it goes. So if you’re keen, drop me an Email listing your full name,
age, sex, occupation and styles of wine you enjoy. That should do
it, so we will hopefully get a good cross section of society and
tastes. We will be making our choice in a few weeks and we will
let you know then. Specials on Irish BrewsHeres some great winter drinking to warm the cockles and even the sub cockles, GUINNESS DRAUGHT STUBBIES only $12.97 per six pack, that’s a saving of over $10!!!
And KILKENNY DRAUGHT IRISH BEER only $9.97 for the four pack, they were $12.50! Heres a picture to refresh your memories.
That reminds me, this Friday we also have available the delish Danish number Tuborg in a twelve pack for only $19.95, now that’s a great price for a classy Euro number.
LaksaRightio then, this is so simple and so very tasty, but beware you don’t put to much Laksa paste in as I did on the weekend and I ended up being the only one in my family to sit through a bowl!
Now for the ingredients, the Laksa I made had prawns as the main ingredient, but you can use any meat or just vegetables if that’s your thing. All of the stuff you need is available on the shelves in Fishers.
4 large green prawns per person, split lengthways 1 teaspoon Laksa paste per person Coconut cream 1 tin Rice vermicelli 1 bundle per Grated carrot Beans sliced diagonally Fresh coriander Bean sprouts
Soak the vermicelli in warm water for 30 mins or until softened. Now heat a pot and put in the Laksa paste and fry until fragrant. Tip in the coconut cream and enough water for the serves you need, bring this to the simmer and add the meat, veg, noodles and season to taste. Simmer this until the meat is cooked and the noodles are soft. Ladle into large soup bowls, and top with coriander and bean sprouts. The recipe is so open to interpretation you really can’t go wrong. The delicious spicy flavour will be sure to keep those winter lurgies at bay! Wine ExpoHere it is Ladies and Gentlemen, the date for the biggest Fishers Fine Wine Expo yet!!! Diary this in, Saturday 30th July 11am to 5pm The Settlers Don’t miss this !!!
TastingBanrock Station ReservePop in Friday afternoon and have a sip with us of Banrocks Premium range. Banrock Station has always produced reliable and honest wines, but the Reserve range takes a considerable step up in quality with the Chardonnay getting a “Bloody Good” and “its got posh wine characters” in the recent Quaff guide. Plus the others in the range are also well reviewed and medalled. So, anyone for a drink? See you Friday arvo at the tasting corner between 4.30 and 7pm.
