Vol 1, No. 40 - July 2005!

Over Winter?

That’s it I’m officially OVER winter and yearning for some of that warm sunny bike riding weather we all love so much. But with a month and a half of winter separating us from Spring it looks like I’ll just have to suck it up and try to enjoy the cold bleak weather.

What with all of this wet cold weather it just makes you want to stay indoors and snuggle up in front of the fire with a good bottle of red by your side. And I’m thinking of some good hearty soul food like a thick steaming bowl of pumpkin soup and warm crusty bread or a hearty minestrone soup. Now that’s more like it, getting into the hearty warming food and good red and fortified wines. Theres a recipe that Ill have to include soon, a seafood & tomato soup (bouillabaisse).

I’m heading to Adelaide for a weeks hard earned Holidays next week, and briefly to Kangaroo Island to catch up with the in-laws. I’m planning to hit the Central market for some fresh produce and then do some creating in the kitchen.

Kangaroo Island has a thriving food and wine industry that I’m looking forward to reacquainting myself with. It has a small but flourishing wine industry with some quality wines being made and vineyards springing up all over the island.

The seafood is world famous and the last time we visited we were able to purchase a Lobster from a fishing boat at the wharf and cook it for dinner that night, not to mention the famous free range chooks, great cheeses, the best honey and just about any fruit or veg you care to think of, makes it a cooks paradise.

So hopefully, after my week away Ill be full of food and wine stories from Sth Oz, stay tuned !

This week at the tasting corner we have Zilzie wines, always great value and a range that’s got something for everyone. So roll up between 4.30 and 7pm for a taste of some really good local product.
