No. 57 - May 11th 2006Winetime 57 Quite the cold snap we are having, time to stock up on reds, ports and sherries. Grab that favourite old blanket and throw another log on the fire. So to take your mind of the finger snapping cold, we have got quite a line up for you coming up. This week we have a great review on one of the Mildura Brewery's new addition to its already great take home line by an esteemed colleague in the funny hat. Some great new wines on our shelves and an interesting range on tastings. Read on….
WINE TASTINGS Another newie to our shelves this week is the Yelta Ridge range, from the Murray Darling Region. At the usual time 4pm to 7pm, Deakin Ave store at the tastings area. A rep from the Yelta Ridge Estate will be in to have a chat and answer any question that you may have about the winery and its products.
WHY OUR WINES ARE FIRST CLASS We use traditional wine making methods. We only produce small quantities, so our quality control is paramount. We carefully select estate grown fruit. Yelta Ridge Estate was conceived over a glass of wine by a group of wine grower friends who shared an appreciation of good wine.
Yelta is situated on the rolling hills overlooking the mighty Murray River and was home to a Church of England Mission established in 1855. It was here that the first irrigation in the district took place, the start of the thriving vineyards and the wine that continues today. During the Second World War fuel for the Air Force training squadron was stored in giant concrete tanks at Yelta. Yelta is also the terminus of the longest railway in Victoria .
THE TASTINGS HAT This week we got our hands on one of the Mildura brewery beers that they are going to make apart of their regular line up if all goes well. Watch this space on availability of their new bottled specialty beers that we may soon be stocking on our shelves. When we do we will give you a little more detailed review and possibly some tastings. Anyway this is what Alesha thought of it….
MILDURA BREWERY STORM ALE I enjoyed this over a beef and red wine casserole. Fruity kind of flavour with a cloudy look, quite refreshing and very cold. Very simular taste to the Little Creatures Pale Ale. Very enjoyable and a top drop. Alesha Wright.
NEW WINES
Ok this wine isn't that new because we have had it in before, but it has been a while. Previously it has been a huge seller, as are all New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are. This wine is an exceptional example of a New Zealand Sauv/Blanc. If you haven't tried it before, give it a go, for $23.95 it is very affordable Marlborough Sauv/Blanc.
SPECIALS Specials galore this week……
Well that's it for another week. Looking forward to next week with another tastings hat review and more new wines. And some more fun tasting events. From the team here at Fishers Liquor. See you soon.
