Winetime 59

With Jack Frost visiting us most mornings now, we can see that it is going to be a very cold winter. Don't know about you but I'm seriously struggling to get out of bed in the morning.

We now have a date for the wine expo and it is fast approaching, getting very exciting.

Can't wait till then, we are having some very good tastings over the next couple of weeks and looking forward to giving them a go.
And another funny photo. Read on for more information…..

WINE TASTINGS

Ok, this week we have got Michael coming in from Wingara wine group to do some tastings on their Riddoch range. An interesting branch of the Katnook range they are well worth a look and a taste.

Riddoch

Riddoch wines were launched in 1980 and named in honour of the founder of Coonawarra, John Riddoch. They are made entirely from estate grown fruit. The winemaking team is headed by Tony Milanowski.

The aim behind Riddoch wines is to capture the essential characteristics of Coonawarra in a harmonious, early drinking, forward fruit style priced for regular enjoyment. There are seven wines in the range; Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz , Cabernet Shiraz, Cabernet Merlot and a Sparkling Shiraz. The grapes for all are selectively harvested to give the winemaker an array of flavours and characters for blending.

Riddoch wines have accumulated many awards over the years including the famous Jimmy Watson Trophy for Riddoch 1986 Cabernet Shiraz. They are widely available in Australia and internationally and represent remarkable value for those looking for a wine with the stamp of Coonawarra and the pedigree of Katnook Estate.

Tastings are on at the usual time of 4pm till 7pm, at the Deakin Ave store, at the tastings area. Also coming soon, the Wine Club wine tastings will be expanding to the Red Cliffs Fishers store as well. So watch this space….

Also I'm going to let you all know about next weeks tastings as well, but we will remind you all next week as well. Just to keep you all well informed. Next week we will have some of the O'leary Walker range. A fairly new range on our shelves but has already built itself a solid reputation with quality wines.

O'Leary Walker History

O'Leary Walker Wines was established in 2001 by David O'Leary and Nick Walker. These two long time friends had established quite illustrious winemaking careers over twenty years with big companies, but both were looking to take control of their own destiny and craft small batches of wine from great vineyard sites. They took a great leap of faith and are doing exactly what they set out to.

THE TASTINGS HAT

On The Hat this week, we have Josh and his view of the 2005 Yelta Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon. Now we had tastings of these a few weeks ago and they produced a fair bit of interest for a new local wine. Here's what Josh had to say….

“I tried this wine with a Lamb Roast which I found was a good match. The meat helped the wine a bit, due to the wine not showing enough body and it coming across a bit bland. Maybe with another couple of years under its belt it may be easier drinking on its own.”

Josh.
