JAMES SQUIRE RUM REBELLION PORTER - LIMITED RELEASE

New Brew:
This special porter brew has been aged in rum barrels for some months; cases are rare as only 7,000 have been packaged. Being the first of its kind since the days of James Squire, Rum Rebellion Porter is a must to try.

History of James Squire Rum Rebellion Porter:
Before James Squire helped beer overtake it in popularity, rum was the order of the day in the Colony.

Concerned that rum was becoming more like the disorder of the day, Governor Bligh attempted to prohibit the demon drink's use as currency - triggering what become known as The Rum Rebellion.

Squire didn't let the situation distract him - even leasing the rebel-held government brewery to help expand his beer production.

Rum and beer seemed destined to be intermingled, then as now. Uncertain exactly what Squire brewed at the time, we can be sure porter was popular; and that rum casks would've been used - if not for conditioning - at least for cartage of beer to customers' homes.

The two flavours would've blended, as they do here, in a unique-tasting brew.

"Rum Barrel Aged Porter"; a bit of mouthful in both senses.

Brewers Tasting Notes:
A kissing cousin of stout, the colour of porter is not unlike the ruby-mahogany glow of dark rum. Left for some months to mature in rum casks, this higher gravity ale is decanted and blended to give it a considerable structure, flavour and head. During aging it takes on the earth, vanilla undertone of oak, while rum echoes lengthen the palate to create a smooth, satisfying finish.

Food Matching Suggestions:
The Rum Rebellion Porter would make a great accompaniment to a Beef and Red Wine Casserole, Blue Vein cheese or for something sweeter, a Sticky Date Pudding.

Available in 345ml bottle at selected bottle shops for a limited time only.
